How do I check a vehicle?

Enter the vehicle's registration number (number plate) in the search box on our homepage. You'll instantly see the full report – MOT history, tax status, mileage records and vehicle specifications. There's no sign-up and no payment.

What information does the report include?

Each report includes: full MOT history with test dates, results and recorded defects; current tax status and expiry date; mileage readings from every MOT test plus an estimated current mileage; vehicle specifications such as make, model, year, colour, engine size and fuel type; Euro emissions standard; and London congestion, LEZ and ULEZ chargeability.

Why is checking a vehicle's history important?

A vehicle's MOT and mileage history can reveal problems a seller might not mention. Repeated MOT failures point to recurring faults, gaps or drops in mileage readings can indicate clocking, and expired tax or MOT means the vehicle can't legally be driven. Checking before you buy helps you negotiate fairly and avoid expensive surprises.

When is my tax and MOT due?

Run a check on your own registration and the report shows the exact expiry dates for both. Vehicle tax must be renewed annually or every six months, and vehicles over three years old need an annual MOT. Driving without either can result in fines of up to £1,000.
